Pickin' Rock

As much as I do not care for rocks in landscaping, it turns out we have a lot of them, and they are free. Free for the picking!

Last summer, my cousin Forest came out and built us a fabulous retaining rock wall for the flower beds/landscaping around the house. Very cost effective and I think it looks very nice. Even though Ryan would like to put decorative stone in those beds around my plants, I'm *pretty* sure I've got him talked into mulch.

This spring I planted some burning bushes behind the garage and some forsythia along the shed next to my clothes line. And in those two places, I agreed to the stone.

One of William's summer jobs was to pick the rocks out of the pasture next to the house, and outline the two beds that will hold the decorative rock.

William was much more motivated to do the job after we negotiated a price and a happier worker when I agreed to pay his friend too.

Unfortunately we picked the hottest day of the year to do the work.

No joke. Last Thursday it was 104 degrees.

They did a really great job getting all the rocks picked up, and it went really fast.

Jackson even got in on the work.  He did a lot more supervising after he dropped a rock on his head, but he was still great help.

They did get a little distracted when the county trucks went by.

Especially when there were three in a row...

They were delighted when each of them honked the air horn!

When they got them all  picked up, I went out, and smoothed out the ground cover, and helped them place the rocks around the edges.

Our finished project- waiting on the decorative stone.

It seriously only took like twenty minutes, but I thought I was going to die. It was so hot. So, we went to Dairy Queen and treated ourselves!
